Accelerate system design with flexible and scalable ‘base level’ and ‘domain-optimized’ development kits

Xilinx evaluation and development kits combine hardware, development tools, and more to enable quick development right out of the box:

  • Base Platform Kits:
    • Base level Virtex-6 and Spartan-6 FPGA evaluation kits provide all the elements that engineers need to develop basic FPGA-based systems, including support for I/O, memory interfacing and more.
  • Embedded, DSP and Connectivity Domain Kits:
    • The more you know in advance about your demanding design requirements, the more Xilinx can provide to help you accelerate your FPGA system design
    • Domain specific platform kits provide additional integrated tools and IP optimized for Embedded, DSP and/or Connectivity intensive applications
    • These platforms save time by providing enhanced design infrastructure, enabling engineers to jump ahead in the development schedule to focus more time on creating your own unique product differentiation
  • Reference Design Interfaces:
    • Interactive reference design encourage rapid ‘what-if’ trade-off exercises to fully evaluate the platform capabilities and lead you into modifying the sources to quickly satisfy your own application requirements
    • Quickly Set-Up the systems, Evaluate the platform options, and then Modify the references to extend them into your own designs!

I’m quite impressed by the latest Spartan-6 FPGA Embedded kit from Xilinx. Within minutes of opening the kit, I was able to run the out-of-box demo and quickly evaluate the capabilities of the MicroBlaze processor sub-system with gigabit networking, video interfaces and also the Spartan-6 FPGA hard DDR3 memory controller running at 800Mbps. The FMC daughter card interface on the board and the customizable Embedded reference design will enable me to easily interface and characterize my Gigabit Transceiver designs.
